The songwriter wrote:
“I’ll say yes, Lord, yes
To your will and to your way
I’ll say yes, Lord, yes
I will trust you and obey
When your Spirit speaks to me
With my whole heart, I’ll agree
And my answer will be yes, Lord, yes.”
The first line of the song “Yes, Lord Yes,” sung by Reverend Shirley Caesar, inspires and motivates us to sit at the feet of our master and allow him to speak to us so that we can receive direction for our lives.
Indeed, the Holy Spirit speaks, and when He speaks, we must listen and come into agreement with Him. This leads to growth and maturity in our spiritual lives.
God has a plan and purpose for everyone. To know what that purpose is, we must first be in the right relationship with Him. To be in the right relationship with Him means we must accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour and confess our sins. The next step is to maintain communication with Him through prayer – speak to Him and allow Him to speak to you.
In addition to prayer, God speaks to us when we read the Holy Bible, His inspired Word. He also speaks in other ways; therefore, we need to listen carefully and obey His instructions even when we don’t understand everything or can’t see the road ahead clearly. Our response should always be to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. (Romans 8:14).
I know that in today’s world, we are bombarded with many voices, but if we listen to some of those voices, we will end up encountering dead ends. If we want to be successful and relevant in the ‘natural’, people will tell us to “Keep your ears to the ground.” But if we want to fulfil God’s purpose for our lives, we must keep our ears attuned to the Holy Spirit. With His leading and our obedience, we will definitely be able to live purpose-driven lives according to John 16:13.
Let our daily prayer always be – speak Lord, for your humble servant will hear, obey, and submit to Your will.
